The contemporary art institution complex was created from the rehabilitation of industrial buildings. The Architect’s Forum wrote the following in 2002:
… The MEO may not be like this, its spaces are imposing and highly practical, and the entrance building proclaims something new, something independent and personal. The ensemble has emerged from a tremendous mess. In the former Táncsics Leather Factory, construction of all kinds of purposes and orders was going on during the operation of the (Quality Control Department = MEO), and the present buildings were not clearly recognisable from either the outside or the inside. …
